It offers a suite of hardware options and a large App Marketplace to fit the unique needs of a large number of business owners. Clover manufactures their own hardware which works nicely with their software and add on Apps. Though Clover has been in the market for a few years, it is still missing functionality that other systems offer. Most of the times, the functionality can be added via purchasing apps but it can get very costly. Also, Clover does not offers support for third party apps which can leave business owners stranded if they are unable to get in touch with the app developer.

ShopKeep offers an iPad app for processing transactions and an online app, called Back Office, for all the management needs and Pocket, an iPhone app for reporting on the go. ShopKeep was born in a retail store and offers a strong set of features for retail business owners. We will cover all the important features in detail. We are fans of the inventory management tools, customizable reporting and the Back Office. Quick service/counter top businesses will find most of the features they are looking for though it is clear that food service is not ShopKeep’s primary focus. ShopKeep is lagging behind in a few areas when compared to similarly priced competitors. Most notably, ShopKeep does not offer support for multi-location businesses nor an API (which makes it easy to customize the app to your unique needs).

This POS system is easy to use for wait staff given its supports all iOS devices - iPads, iPods and iPhones. The management console, called Ambur Cloud, has the controls and reporting needed for restaurant owners to be in control of their business. While Ambur offers a lot of features for the price (more on that later), it is missing a few features that similarly priced POS systems offer. The biggest drawback is not having an API or an App Marketplace, this limits the customization of the point of sale system. Gift card and loyalty support are also lacking.
